Lowes back on the up after promising Imola Sunday

Lincolnshire rider returns to top 6 and leaves Italy with positive feelings

He might not yet be reaching the heights from the first two rounds of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, but Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) leaves the Pata Italian Round with some of his form regained, after a difficult weekend at Assen and trouble on Friday and Saturday here at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola.

Lowes started in twelfth, and had to fight up the grid twice after an early mistake made him drop back several positions. At the end, sixth place and 10 points puts the British rider back on track in the championship.

The Yamaha rider was satisfied not just with the result, but also the overall sensations coming out of Imola: “After a disappointing Race 1, I’m really happy with the second race because my pace was strong. I made it hard for myself again, because I had a good start, passed a few guys from twelfth on the grid, then made a mistake and dropped all the way back to thirteenth. But I managed to get back up to sixth”.

“Before the mistake, it was the best I’d felt on the bike all weekend”, he continues. “It’s always nice when you’re in the race and you’re feeling good. I was confident I could move forward and I managed to do it”.

Lowes heads home now to Donington, his best performing track on the 2018 race list, with two third-place finishes in 2014 and last year. Running for his front crowd seems to give Lowes that added edge: “It’s a great track that I enjoy anyway, with the added bonus that it’s my home race. I managed to get a podium there last year, so will try to do it again this year!”.
